PHILOSOPHY
The harmony of man and nature is a fundamental concept in traditional Chinese thought. This forms the basis of ICICLE’s commitment to virtuous and responsible fashion, where clothing, man, and nature are intertwined through a sense of “oneness“.
Chinese wisdom defines the true nature of man as being one with nature itself. Man is a part of nature, just as nature is a part of man, and as such must preserve its beauty and limited resources. In this perspective, nature is a reflection of man, and vice versa.
Cultivating sincere reverence for nature, which is the essence of its committed and responsible approach, ICICLE’s fashion is based on a circular model: natural fibres come from the Earth, and we endeavour to reduce, through our actions, the environmental impact of the collections we design from these materials. This is also the meaning of “Made in Earth“.
PARIS-SHANGHAI
Born in 1997 in Shanghai, a modern, vibrant, cosmopolitan, and globally connected metropolis, ICICLE has been exploring a new path for ethical and sustainable fashion for over 25 years. In a thoughtful manner, the family-owned business first expanded in China, and later in France and Japan. ICICLE now operates more than 270 stores around the world.
In 2013, ICICLE established its ateliers in the heart of Paris, combining Parisian couture savoir-faire with Chinese philosophy of fashion inspired by nature. This creative studio brings together artistic direction, collection design, and store design departments. The creative encounter between Paris and Shanghai infuses a Parisian spirit into ICICLE’s collections, which remain true to their Chinese roots.
The eco-conscious vision, which is at the core of ICICLE’s renown, is indeed deeply rooted in traditional Chinese thought. The intent is to reconcile comfortable, loose silhouettes, which are crafted from the finest materials inherited from China’s millennial history, with a modern-day minimalist elegance.
CULTURAL SPACE
The ICICLE Cultural Space, inaugurated in 2019, is located on the 3rd floor of our boutique at 35 avenue George V, Paris 8. It houses a bookstore and an art gallery to foster dialogue between cultures, support contemporary artistic creation, and facilitate unique encounters between artists, art historians, philosophers, and journalists.
Through unique cultural programming and exhibitions related to art, craftsmanship, and design, ICICLE reaffirms its commitment to culture and creation in all its forms – painting, sculpture, photography, literature, and music. The specialty bookstore presents over 500 works dedicated to lifestyle, Chinese thought, and China in the 21st century, including classic and contemporary authors.
Overall, it is in the heart of Paris that the ICICLE Cultural Space hosts exhibitions and conferences to cultivate inner reflection, awaken curiosity, and enrich one’s understanding of the world.
